Rock information
Mauna Loa has basaltic magma, which it cools and forms sedimentary, then turn into metamorphic rocks. Those rocks contain iron, magnesium, and crystals of olivine. These rocks are silica-rich, and you can find washed up coral and broken shells on Mauna Loa. Layers of sand and ash have formed into rock, and the washed up coral and shells have been added to the volcano. The volcanic ash has made the soil to be more fertile from previous eruptions.
